Time to go on a Cruise

first_imgSOUTHERN CRUISE, who was third in the St Leger as a three-year-old in 2015, should give Super-6 players a flying start when he runs in the opening race (restricted allowance III) over 1400 metres, to be contested by seven starters.Trained by Anthony Nunes, SOUTHERN CRUISE is easily the most accomplished in the field, and following his close second to TARANIS in the recent New Year’s Day Trophy over 1300 metres, the 4-y-o son of Western Cruise cannot be opposed with champion jockey Shane Ellis aboard. Stable companion BALLON D’OR should follow him home. The second race over the round-five course for maiden four-year-olds up has attracted 10 starters, and indications are it will come down to a straight fight between IAMALLABOUTTHEBEST (Robert Halledeen up) and SIR LEYLAND HALL (Ryan Nelson), both of whom have shown promise. The Paul Hylton-trained SIR LEYLAND HALL finished second to TRADITIONAL STORM over 1200 metres when last raced in September 2015, while the Burt Tomlinson-trained IAMALLABOUTHEBEST showed good speed when finishing fourth to LAGUNA POINT over the straight on January 1.With Lasix administered for the first time, IAMALLABOUTHEBEST (working fairly well) is preferred to SIR LEYLAND HALL, who has not been seen at exercise and is apparently training at sea.The second banker in the first Super-6 comes in the third race over 1500 metres in the form of NUCLEAR AFFAIR, who was caught on the line by FUTURE KING in the SVL 2-Y-O Stakes over a mile last Boxing Day.Trained by Gary Subratie, the 3-y-o daughter of Nuclear Wayne reports in fine fettle (working well) and with three-time champion jockey Dane Nelson having secured the ride, should account for old rival ANOTHER FURY under Wesley Henry.EL CLIENTE, now dropped in class for the fourth race over 1200 metres for $180,000 claimers, will prove hard to deny from the convenient mark of 54.0kg due to apprentice Odean Edwards’ 3.0kg claiming allowance. The six-year-old gelding has run some good races against better horses in recent months, and despite the sound claims of the recent winner EUSEBIA and super-fit ENHANCE PROSDPERITY, the choice has to be EL CLIENTE.The last two races in the first Super-6 should be won by TURBO MACHINE CAT (knocking at the door) and the well-forward first-time runner MEGATRON (Shane Ellis up) in the sixth, division one of the Mercury Sprint for native bred maiden three-year-old colts and geldings. Their respective dangers are MAN IN BLUE and newcomer BOLD SYMPHONY (working fairly well).FIRST SUPER-6 FANCIES(1) SOUTHERN CRUISE(2) IAMALLABOUTTHEBEST(3) NUCLEAR AFFAIR(4) EL CLIENTE/EUSEBIA(5) TURBO MACHINE CAT(6) MEGATRON/BOLDSYMPHONY- O.C.last_img read more
