Samsung has an iPod touch competitor called Galaxy Player
The iPod touch has been in a pretty unique position since the day it was introduced. A music player that doubled as a video and gaming device, supported by an application store that refuses to stop growing both in popularity and available apps. There really isn’t much that can compete with that over the past few years. But as Android has become a popular alternative to iOS, so has its own app store grown. Now the iPod touch may finally get some decent competitors using Android as an OS. One of the first such devices looks to be coming from Samsung, and it’s called the Galaxy Player.AdChoices广告It’s classed as a music player, and is set to be unveiled at CES next week. But from viewing the initial spec of the device this looks to be anything but just a music player. That’s slightly thicker than the iPod touch (7.2mm) and iPhone (9.3mm), but still acceptably thin.Samsung says the Galaxy Player is based on the Galaxy S smartphone as the styling and spec suggests. What we don’t know is how much the Player will cost, and what storage options will be available, but with CES just over a week away it’s not long to find out tseho key bits of information.Read more at Samsung HubMatthew’s OpinionI think personal media players (PMP) is one area where Android has yet to really take off. Manufacturers seems to be obsessed with trying to produce larger tablets using the OS rather than creating a solid iPod touch competitor. It makes sense to do so, as it gets more people using Android which then feeds back when it comes to phone choice.Samsung did a good job with the Galaxy Tab, and it’s Android phones are some of the best. If it gets the Galaxy Player right it could be an early hit in 2011.
