The Forum is made up of charities that are large users of the postal system. A spokesman for a major social welfare charity stressed that the pre-Christmas period is vitally important for fundraising and they had planned a 200,000 mailing. November and December are critical months for us, he said. Any disruption in the postal system would have a devastating impact on our annual fundraising campaigns that have been planned for six months. We have already spent considerable money on stationary, printing and mailing lists but it could be wasted if a strike goes ahead. Even with a threat of strike action donors become fearful of putting donations in the post and many donors do not have access to electronic transfers, he said. At least five charities in Ireland are planning to meet the 21st November postaim deadline which gives big discounts for bulk mailings. In recent days the rhetoric by the Communications Workers Union has grown more militant, with the likelihood that there will be major disruption over the next month. The fear is that even if the strike does not extend to late November there will be a knock-on effect on deliveries that might mean Christmas mailings will arrive too close to maximize responses. The usual pattern is for up to 75% of replies to arrive in the first 2-3 weeks of a mailing. A spokesman at An Post said that it was more than likely there would be a strike but it was impossible to assess how long it would be and how disruptive it would be to deliveries. He accepted that this made it very difficult for charities to make decisions about whether to go ahead with their mailings. Advertisement

Tutoring in the 21st century is so much more than strict teacher + unhappy student = hours of misery. With Olympia’s Club Z! everything possible is done to make the experience relaxed, stress-free, and easy for everyone involved. Whether pre-K or pre-Med, in-home tutors can help with slipping grades, new school transitions, maintaining sports GPA requirements, overall study skills and test preparation.Angela Grant, owner of Club Z! since 2005, uses her vast array of tutors, interdisciplinary connections, and school district relationships to teach “how to be a student and how to navigate school.”Her skilled leadership and staff of more than 50 tutors help students aged 4-60+ with class work, test preparation, school transitions (both between grade levels and when entering a new district), and college entrance essays. Their large staff size means that every subject is covered, timing issues are minimal, and personalities can be perfectly matched to a student’s needs.By meeting wherever is most convenient, anxiety levels are kept as low as possible. Grant prefers to hold sessions in the child’s home, where stress levels are minimal, but tutors have met in libraries, schools, or anywhere the family and tutor decide. Locally, two casinos even contract to host on-site tutoring for their staff. After requests for math help, language classes are the next most highly requested. Spanish and Japanese are the primary requests, especially for elementary aged children whose parents want them to have an edge. Students and tutors will usually meet once a week for test preparation and to practice vocabulary and conversation skills. With 66% of high school graduates entering college, the need for entrance examination preparation is crucial. Club Z! offers help with the more common exams like the SAT and ACT but also provides assistance on any test required. With their program, the average student gains more than 200 points on the SAT and 3-5 on the ACT which can hugely influence college entrance decisions, scholarships, and financial aid. Club Z! also assists students with college application essays, which can be a pivotal factor in today’s competitive admissions reality.Enrollment with Club Z! is a simple process, with no contract required. Billing is done on an hourly basis and all work is performed one-on-one with the student. The initial consultation with their staff can help establish what expectations, steps, and timeframe might be called for, and lay the groundwork for optimal progress. For questions or to arrange a private consultation, Club Z! can be found online or by calling 360.436.6615. DAVID LOPEZ, HAY DUDE, (FAVORED) SIXTH: “He broke on top and kind of past the dirt patch there, I couldn’t get him to relax at any point. I hit the backside and we’re on the lead the whole backside there. Just too much. We’re asking too much here. NOTES: The winning owners are David Bienstock and Charles Winner of Los Angeles. JOCKEY QUOTES TRAINER QUOTES PADDY GALLAGHER, FLAMBOYANT, WINNER: “It was a very nice win, he ran well. He ran well last time, he ran well this time, he’s run well the last few times.“The first quarter was quick enough for him. Down the backside Brice got him into an even better spot and by the three-eighths pole he was in a perfect spot and he was good enough to get there.” BRICE BLANC, FLAMBOYANT, WINNER: “I picked him up at the right time. He’s very straight forward. I don’t know if the French connection helps, but I’ll run with it.“He’s doing really well in the mornings. Usually, I can tell when a horse has a tendency to bounce but he’s actually doing as well, I don’t know about better, but as well as he was doing before the San Gabriel. I know he loves this turf course.“I wasn’t worried about the mile and a quarter, the distance is fine for him. I was just hoping for a good trip and that’s pretty much what happened. I had a great trip. He gave me his best like he always has since I’ve been on him.” (On if he needs a shorter race) “I don’t think so. If we can get him relaxed, he’d be A-OK there.” -30-

Essential Reading! Get my 3rd book: Eat Their Lunch “The first ever playbook for B2B salespeople on how to win clients and customers who are already being serviced by your competition.” Buy Now If you don’t want to bother your prospect client then don’t bother them. But know that you are not bothering your client when, as your deal nears the end of the buying process, you follow up to ensure that they don’t still need something from you.Your Two ChoicesYou’re always faced with two choices of the salesperson. The first choice is to be self-oriented to check in with your client so that you can find out where your deal is or waste their time. Wasting time means that you are subtracting value. The other choice is to create value for your prospective client. You can still create value, even at the end of your prospect’s buying process, even when your prospect told you they need time, even when your prospect is going through the process of making the decision. Your clients have concerns they need help resolving. They need more information from you. Much of the time they won’t recognize they even need more information until they begin the process of making a decision. It is never right to ignore your clients their needs. You’re never bothering them when you attempt to create value.Make the Value Creating CallWhen you don’t have a plan to create value, the right answer isn’t to ignore your client or pretend that you will be bothering them by calling. The right answer is to find a reason to call that allows you to continue to create value.Call to make sure your prospective clients has all the information they need. Or call to share additional information that wasn’t available until your prospective clients reached this point of their process. Call because you’ve discovered some new way to improve upon the proposal you gave them.Too many deals failed to cross the finish line because sales people mistakenly believe they will be bothering their client by calling. It’s not the call that bothers buyers. It’s wasted time. Make the call to follow up—and make it a value creating call.

After a holding the No. 1 Florida Gators scoreless earlier on Sunday, the Cowgirls ran out of steam to the tune of a 5-0 loss. Florida wins the Gainesville Regional and will host a Super Regional against the winner of the Tuscaloosa Regional. After being held scoreless in the first game of the day, Florida’s Nicole Dewitt opened the game with a two-run homer in the 1st. After runs in the 2nd and the 3rd innings, the Gators built a 4-0 lead through four innings and the Cowgirls were never able to get their bats going — thanks in part to Florida’s ace Delanie Gourney. On the other side, Florida’s early hitting necessitated two pitching changes by the 2nd inning.
